Event - Y2 Visit Hartlebury

December 2007

In December Year 2 visited Hartlebury Museum to spend the day as Victorian school children. During the Autumn term we learnt about holidays which included seaside holidays of the past and this term we are learning all about life in the Victorian times. The visit to Hartlebury was fanatstic as we got to play with Victorian toys, make greeting cards and spend the afternoon in the schoolroom having a lesson taught by a Victorian school teacher.

We got to dress up for the schoolroom lesson and we had to stand up with our arms by our side to speak and had to call the teacher Maa'm. The teacher didn't smile at all and spoke very quietly all this made us realise how lovely our teachers and school is. We had a go at writing with chalk on a board and made a scrapbook. The teacher did not help us like our teachers at Tenacres and even Miss Marshall got told off for trying to help us tie a knot! The Victorian school teacher even gave Miss Marshall and the helpers some cutting out to do to keep them busy so they couldn't help us!

It was great fun though and we learnt so much from actually acting the role of Victorian school children. Our teachers have arranged a visit to our school later on in January from the Museum. Year 2 children will spend the day as Victorian servants learning what jobs they had to do and what life was like for the people who did this job.

Come and see more photos from the day and many more in our school entrance on the Tenacres sildeshow!
