Governors

Welcome to Tenacres First School.

As Governors we are here to support the school and be a ‘critical friend’, ensuring its effective running in areas such as staffing and finance, curriculum, estates and PR.

We are all volunteers and represent a cross section of the community. We are very proud to be associated with the team that makes Tenacres so special.

The Governing Body gives its full support to an inspirational management team, who constantly strive to develop the school for our children.

Our academic achievements are impressive and in recent years we have had outstanding developments across school including a new ICT Suite, extended classrooms in Year 1, refurbished area for Reception children including a sensory room, two Forest School sites and extensive outdoor play equipment.

There are many extra-curricular activities and opportunities.

Parents Surveys comment that children feel happy, safe and secure at Tenacres. Academically they are stretched, supported and most importantly find learning fun.

Becki Brookes

Vice Chair of Governors

I have lived in Redditch for 14 years having moved here from Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire. I currently work full time as an analyst and am married with two children who both attend Tenacres. I was really keen to become a Parent Governor as I not only wanted to share my kids passion that they both hold very strongly for school, but I also wanted to help support the school and everyone who works and learns here. Being a Governor is also giving me the opportunity to better understand how the school operates, allowing me to support and maintain its progression towards its vision to provide a happy, safe and nurturing environment for all pupils. As part of my Governor role I am on the Children and Learning committee, into which I am able to provide an input and assist utilising my skills and knowledge gained through my work and experience. In my spare time I love family days out, long walks, swimming and camping.

Clerk to the Governors

In my role as Clerk to Governors I am here to support the governing body but also contribute to their work through my role as School Business Manager at Tenacres. I am always available in the office if you have any questions regarding the work of our governors or I can put you in touch with them. I would also welcome any queries you may have regarding becoming a governor here at Tenacres; we value the support of all our governors and the work they do for us on the sub-committees; Estates, Health and Safety, Finance and Staffing, Marketing and PR and Curriculum and if we do have vacancies, experience or expertise in these fields is always valued.

LA Governor

I have had the privilege of being a governor at Tenacres First School for a number of years and watched it thrive to the excellent school that we have today. I have had various roles on committees in that time and I am currently on Finance and Staffing and Marketing. I have enjoyed my role as governor immensely since I have been there and cannot praise the Headteacher and staff highly enough. The behaviour of the children has been exemplary when I see them in the school. I had the privilege of being the Mayor of Redditch in 2012/13 and the children loved it when I visited the school with my mayoral chain on. My other interests are being Chair of the Town Centre Partnership in Redditch. I am Chair of the Disabled Action Redditch Group and in my spare time I sing in the Redditch and Bromsgrove Primrose Hospice Choir which is my passion.

Mike Holley

Mike Holley

Co-opted Governor

I was born and raised in Redditch and currently live in Winyates. Me and my wife, Hannah, both went to Tenacres as children and our two daughters have followed in our footsteps and now attend the school many years later! I have fond memories of the school and I can see that the school has gone from strength to strength over the years. I currently work as a Project Delivery Manager for a national food retailer – prior to this I was a Store General Manager. I am also a Diversity and Inclusion lead for my organisation – I am very passionate about inclusion and equal opportunities and hope to bring my knowledge in this area to the table in my role as governor. I sit on the Estates, Health and Safety committee, for which I bring many years experience in running large sites and being responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety. When I’m not working I enjoy running, going to the gym and spending as much time with my family as possible.

Glyn Johnson

Glyn Johnson

Co-opted Governor

I was born and raised around the corner from the school, and attended Tenacres as a child. I now have a son who attends the school, and a daughter at the nearby preschool. In my day job, I work as a Relationship Manager for a global insurer. This role has given me skills that I hope can help to support the staff and students to make Tenacres the best school it can be. In addition to that role, I am also the Chair of Trustees at Tenacres Little Folks Preschool, and a Trustee at a local youth homelessness prevention charity. Within the school, I Chair the Estates and Health and Safety Committee, as well as being the Governor for Maths, SEND, and Looked after Children. I am passionate about creating the best environment possible for all children, somewhere they can all reach their full potential.

Debbie Morris

Chair of Governors

Originally from Birmingham, I have lived in Redditch since 2007. I am married and have two young sons, one of which attends Tenacres. I work as a chartered quantity surveyor within the construction industry. I became a school governor at Tenacres as I have a passion for the education of young people and wanted to utilise the skills and experience that I have gained within my professional career to support the school as it continues to grow, develop and strives to continuously improve. As part of my governing role I am currently chair of governors and also sit on both the Estates, Health and Safety committee and the finance and staffing committee. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, visiting national trust properties, running and travelling as often as I possibly can.

Lisa Sinclair

Lisa Sinclair

Co-opted Governor

My career has allowed me to work with children from a range of ages and backgrounds. My two most recent posts were in a nursery and a residential school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (11-16 years of age). These roles have provided a wealth of knowledge in child development and experience supporting children with complex home lives. During previous roles, I have been able to build effective relationships with parents and carers to ensure best outcomes for children and young people. This led me to my current position of a Family Support Worker. I established my business 5 years ago, and currently work in 5 schools across Redditch and Birmingham. I work at Tenacres on a weekly basis and my role involves supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, providing parent strategies and liasing with teaching staff to achieve positive outcomes for children. When I am in school, I see the dedication of all staff and the Headteacher first-hand. This is reflected in the positive learning environment and ethos of the entire school. I am motivated by seeing the positive changes early family support can make to families and this drives me to continually ensure my professional development is relevant and expanding. This is why I feel my governor role on the children and learning committee and safeguarding, links perfectly with my role as FSW and enables me to promote the welfare of children even further and also see how my role fits into other areas within the school. I have an essential role in ensuring children in the school are kept safe. In my spare time, I enjoy socialising with friends and family and travelling.

Co-opted Governor

I am originally from Studley but joined HM Forces at 16 and travelled around the world for the next 14 years visiting many different countries and seeing the world in a very different light. When I decided to leave the army, I was at a crossroads in my career but when I became a site manager I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I have been married to Joanne for over 30 years (she deserves a medal) and have three older children who all attended Tenacres many years ago. I recently came back to Tenacres and also became a school governor (co-opted) at the same time. I am keen to help the school maintain its very high standards and move forward and use my skills and experience to help with the education of young people. As part of my governing role I am Forest School governor and also sit on the Estates, Health and Safety committee. In my spare time I love any sports and help coach rugby at Alcester RFC.
