School Meals

Here at Tenacres we strive to promote healthy eating.

We provide Reception and Key Stage 1 children with fruit at their morning break and Reception children with milk in the mornings.

Our curriculum covers all aspects of healthy living and we often have healthy events such as:

  • ‘Lunchtime crunch time’ when children are encouraged to bring a healthy lunchbox to school and prizes are awarded for the healthiest one;
  • ‘Fruity Friday’ when children are encouraged to come to school dressed in fruity colours and take part in fruit snack making and tasting;
  • ‘Feeling Fit Friday’ when the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is promoted through healthy eating and fun fitness activities.

Our meal providers are Class Catering. They provide a selection of hot and deli meal options daily. There is always a vegetarian option and if your child has special dietary requirements/allergies, Class Catering will accommodate these.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 all qualify for Universal Free School Meals which are fully funded by the Government.

Free School Meals (FSM)

EYFS and Years 1 and 2

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will get free school meals through the government-funded universal initiative that was launched in September 2014.

We positively promote this and encourage all parents to take up this offer. We estimate that it will save parents hundreds of pounds per year and provide children with a well-balanced and nutritious lunch.

Years 3 and 4

For children in Years 3 and 4, if you as parent/carer receive certain benefits, then your child may also be eligible for FSM.We ask all parents who qualify to apply online for this. For every child in receipt of free school meals, the school receives additional funding.

If you get one or more of the following, you can get FSM:

  • Universal Credit, and your annual household income is £7,400 per annum (£616 per month) or less after tax, and not including any benefits.
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Support under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act, 1999
  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income is less than £16,190, as assessed by HMRC
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit run-on paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
