Event - Parents Tell Year 1 About the 1960s

February 2010

Year 1 have been learning about the 1960s as their History topic and parents and grandparents were invited to come and talk to the children about this period.

They brought in brought in a wonderful range of artefacts for the children to explore and learn from.

Thank you to all the relatives who made the lesson so special. The children learnt so much about life in the past through exploring objects and pictures and listening to people's experiences.

Children saw photos of holidays and weddings, showing how fashions and hairstyles have changed.

The tape-to-tape player and cameras with films on a roll which you had to send away to be processed were of great interest to the children.

The instamatic camera was also of great interest.

Many children had never seen a long playing record.

This black and white wedding photograph showed ladies in very smart hats, gloves and handbags.

Coins and notes included a 10 shilling note, a pound note, half crowns and halfpennnies.
