Event - Dudley Trust Canal Trip

5 March 2012

On Monday 5th March, Year 4 enjoyed a trip to Dudley Trust Canal, which was related to our topic on Canals.

Year 4 were excited to visit the Dudley Trust Canal.

We visited the Limestone mines and caverns - wearing our hard hats for protection.

Scenes underground showing what life was like in the mines.

The tunnels were SO narrow!

We were amazed to see that water seeping through the rock left this residue.

...and mini stalagtites hung above us.

Travelling through the volcanic rock below Dudley.

A few of us tried 'legging' the boat through the tunnel

More leg work!

It was very hard work!

Travelling back.

We went through three locks.

The locks control the water level in the canal.

Going through a lock.

The water level took us down a long way.

We arrived at the old Pumphouse where we enjoyed our lunch.

June told us about the Toll House and cottage.

Some of us dressed up as people who used to live on canal barges

More dressing up.

We all agreed we had had a great day learning more about canals
